Nineteen Santa Margarita students traveled abroad to represent the countries of South Africa, Cyprus and Cameroon at the prestigious 42nd Annual Royal Russell International MUN Conference. The conference, held at the historic Royal Russell School, gathered hundreds of students from around the globe to engage in a comprehensive simulation of United Nations proceedings.
The SMCHS delegation excelled in the conference, with 12 individual awards highlighting the students’ diplomatic skills, knowledge and commitment to international cooperation. Among these accomplishments, the students representing Cyprus distinguished themselves, earning the highly competitive Distinguished Delegation Award. At the same time, the South Africa delegation received the Highly Commended Delegation Award, showcasing their thorough preparation and articulate advocacy on pressing global issues.
Throughout the conference, the students participated in intensive debates, drafted resolutions, and collaborated with their international peers on solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Beyond the rigorous academic engagements, the conference provided a platform for cultural exchange, fostering a global perspective among the delegates. The journey was more than a conference; it was a life-enriching adventure that immersed the students in the historic and cultural grandeur of London.
Following their successful conference, the SMCHS delegation continued their exploration of London’s most celebrated landmarks. Highlights included a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral with its towering dome and intricate architecture, a walk across the Millennium Bridge with views of the Thames River and an immersive stop at the lively Borough Market, where students sampled British and international culinary delights. The itinerary also included the Tower of London, where students glimpsed the Crown Jewels and learned of England’s storied past and Tower Bridge, one of the most famous and photographed bridges in the world.
In addition to historical landmarks, students explored the elegant Hyde Park and visited Kensington Palace for a morning walk. This was followed by a tour of Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square. The final day included a captivating visit to the British Museum, where students saw firsthand some of the world’s greatest treasures.
This MUN trip offered not only an invaluable academic experience but also a chance for SMCHS students to grow as global citizens. Each destination added depth to their understanding of international affairs, the arts and history—providing a transformative experience that will influence them for years.
These experiences resulted from thoughtful planning and commitment by the SMCHS faculty and administration, ensuring that students could fully engage in the cultural and academic aspects of this journey.
